Overview: Trauma includes experiencing or witnessing violence, substance abuse, mental health issues, incarceration, and similar issues that can have a deep and long-lasting impact on families. Though most family-serving practitioners are not equipped to treat trauma, you can nurture relationships with those who have experienced trauma in ways that are reassuring and healing and avoid interactions that may trigger trauma-related responses.
